Concentration Stoichiometry

When a lyophilized peptide powder of mass M (in milligrams) is dissolved in a solvent volume V (in milliliters of 0.9% benzyl alcohol preserved bacteriostatic water), the solution concentration C (mg/mL) is given by:

C (mg/mL) = Mass (vial mg) / Volume (water mL)

Since 1 milligram equals 1,000 micrograms (1 mg = 1,000 mcg), concentration in micrograms per milliliter C (mcg/mL) is:

C (mcg/mL) = C (mg/mL) * 1000

Liquid Draw Volume Calculation

To isolate a target research dose D (mcg) (in micrograms) from a solution of concentration C (mcg/mL), the required draw volume V (mL) in milliliters is:

V (draw mL) = Target Dose (mcg) / Concentration (mcg/mL)

Syringe Calibration Derivations

Insulin syringes are calibrated in International Units of volume based on target insulin concentration standards:

U-100 Insulin Syringes

Calibrated at 100 units per 1.0 mL. Formula: Units (U-100) = Draw Volume (mL) * 100

U-40 Insulin Syringes

Calibrated at 40 units per 1.0 mL. Formula: Units (U-40) = Draw Volume (mL) * 40

Standard mL Syringes

Expressed directly in decimal fractions of milliliters (0.01 mL precision gradations).
